A lighter body alternative
Aluminum alloy is less dense than cast iron and stainless steel. The exact assembled-valve weight still depends on size, trim and operator; request dimensional data for the selected configuration.

Aluminum alloy provides a lighter body-material option that can be cost-efficient for compatible pressure, temperature, medium and project requirements.
Material advantages
Body material affects handling, corrosion behavior, cost and application suitability. The final choice also considers the complete valve assembly and service.

Aluminum alloy does not form the red iron oxide associated with cast iron. That does not make it absolutely corrosion-proof; medium and environmental compatibility still matter.
Where the application permits, an aluminum body may offer a more cost-efficient route than a stainless-steel body.
Side-by-side view
This table is a screening tool, not an engineering specification.
| Question | Aluminum alloy | Cast iron | Stainless steel |
|---|---|---|---|
| Relative body weight | Typically lighter | Typically heavier | Typically heavier |
| Red-rust behavior | Does not form red iron rust | Can form red rust if protection is compromised | Does not form red rust, grade and environment still matter |
| Cost context | Can be attractive where service permits | Common economical baseline | Often selected when material performance justifies higher cost |
| Selection caution | Review medium, galvanic exposure, pressure and temperature | Review coating, corrosion environment and weight | Select the correct grade; do not assume every stainless alloy fits every medium |
Where it can fit
Packaged equipment, pump skids and accessible installations may value a lower body weight, provided the service and connection requirements are a match.
When to compare alternatives
Cast iron, stainless steel, lined or high-performance constructions may be more appropriate when chemical compatibility, temperature, pressure or project-criticality requires them.
